This is what a Purple Cherokee tomato looks like. Isn't it pretty ?!?!? I've never been a fan of tomatoes, supermarket tomatoes are, to me, tasteless and mushy. I never eat them in a restaurant, I don't like ketchup and I was a teenager before I had red sauce on my spaghetti ...BUT ..... fresh tomatoes from the garden are a different story. These tomatoes mature into big, heavy, meat filled fruit, when at their peak are super full of flavor and firm meat. YUMMIE !! I ate them everyday, when I spent my month in the garden. Panzanella salad was my staple lunch for weeks. (btw -We had fresh cucumbers too !! )
(I didn't grow this one, it's just a picture.)
After an idyllic month in paradise, the cats, house plants, tomatoes & I returned to Bronxville around September 1st to resume ..... life. I chopped up the best looking tomato I came home with, separated & picked out ALL the seeds, soaked & rinsed them over a 7 day process to remove all the S.L.I.M.E and set them out to dry. They lived in the cupboard, in an envelope for 8 months.
(They're fuzzy seeds.)
And on Easter Sunday I planted them.
How is the whole family doing?
